In 2005, she worked as a consultant for numerous boutique PR firms to oversee narrative features, foreign language films, documentary features and special interest films such as Robert Greenwald’s Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price; Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me; Robert Klein: The HBO Specials; Sex and Lucia and Dirty Dancing: The Limited Edition.
In 2008 Cortes established MSophia PR and led campaigns for Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest and the award-winning documentary, Restrepo. She has also has worked on numerous multi-tiered campaigns with The Oprah Winfrey Network; National Geographic; Lionsgate; Music Box Films; Virgil Films and has worked directly with renowned filmmakers such as Morgan Spurlock, Richard Linklater; Michael Imperioli; and Mark Cousins, just to name a few.
Margarita Sophia Cortes currently serves on the board of directors for New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) organization as VP of Communications.
