Much more than a dance documentary or musical story involving flamenco, FLAMENCO, FLAMENCO maintains two unique narrative elements to support its presentation. The first, a life journey, utilizes different styles of flamenco over the course of the film to present a cycle of birth, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, death and, finally, rebirth. The second element is light, which is interwoven with the first element, as the film progresses through a range of choreographed colors. The result is a sizzling concoction of flamenco-saturated light and life, all captured in FLAMENCO, FLAMENCO by Saura’s master cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, a three-time Academy Award winner for his work on Apocalypse Now, Reds and The Last Emperor.

An official selection at such prestigious international gatherings as the Espagnolas en Paris Film Festival, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Latinbeat Film Series, the Seville European Film Festival and the Toulouse Cinespaña Film Festival, FLAMENCO, FLAMENCO holds an impeccable 100% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, with critics applauding the creative depth of veteran filmmaker Carlos Saura, who is regarded as the cinema’s chief archivist of Spain’s performing arts.
