MUSIC BOX FILMS HOME ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES
We Are The Giant
A REMARKABLE CHRONICLE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY ARAB SPRING AND THE EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE AT ITS HEART WHO STRUGGLED FOR JUSTICE AND FREEDOM …BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
Coming to VOD on February 10, 2015
The extraordinary documentary WE ARE THE GIANT transports viewers to the front lines of the Arab Spring at its dawn in December 2010 via the courageous stories of six unforgettable people determined to re-shape their lives and countries. An insightful portrait of the young activists who ultimately awakened the world to their plight and changed the course of history, WE ARE THE GIANT targets the dilemma at the heart of all struggles for justice and freedom—whether to take up arms and fight or to advocate for change through peaceful means.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker and former war correspondent Greg Barker (Manhunt), WE ARE THE GIANT was filmed largely in secret and at great risk over the past two and a half years. To access the untold stories of the inspired young activists of the Arab Spring in the streets of Libya, Syria and Bahrain (as well as on Facebook and Twitter), WE ARE THE GIANT co-producer Razan Ghalayini, who speaks Arabic and is of Arab descent, developed an extensive network of contacts among activists across the region. She then used this network to secretly travel to locations where director Greg Barker would have stood out and revealed the film’s true purpose.
Music Box Films Home Entertainment will release WE ARE THE GIANT on Video on Demand (VOD), including: iTunes, Amazon Instant Video and GooglePlay, for the first time on February 10, 2015 following its acclaimed roll-out to the U.S.’s top theatrical markets in December.
Among the unlikely heroes presented in WE ARE THE GIANT are the outspoken sisters Maryam and Zainab Alkhawaja (whose Twitter handle “Angry Arabiya” has over 40,000 followers), who are both fiercely determined to protest for human rights even under perpetual threat of imprisonment and exile; Ghassan Yassin, a prominent activist of the Syrian revolution who was working as a cab driver when he helped organize the first non-violent protest in Aleppo; and Libya’s Osama Ben-Sadik, who joined the opposition forces at the behest of his son, who was killed while fighting alongside the rebels in Brega, Libya. Though all are from very different walks of life, WE ARE THE GIANT reveals that all are resolved to stand up for what they believe in and challenge the oppressive regimes determined to crush popular uprisings.
Masterfully crafted and acutely perceptive, WE ARE THE GIANT is a hard-hitting and timely documentary which follows the everyday decisions that transform not just personal lives but the fates of nations. In a world where there is always a possibility of necessary violence when pacifism yields no results, WE ARE THE GIANT reminds us that we are all products of revolutions and that there is always hope in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
