Black Out opens in limited theaters, Feb 21 (Doppelganger Releasing)

Coming to theaters this February, Doppelgänger Releasing is excited to present the U.S. theatrical debut of the award-winning thriller, BLACK OUT.  Take a retired criminal waking up with a head-splitting hangover on the day before his wedding. Now throw in a murdered gangster lying right next to him, twenty kilos of cocaine that have gone missing, and 24 hours to sort it all out before vicious consequences are meted out. Add it all up and what’s do you have? BLACK OUT, the wickedly energetic and twisted crime thriller from the Netherlands, directed and co-written by rising Dutch filmmaker Arne Toonen.

Doppelgänger Releasing will release BLACK OUT in theaters and on VOD for the first time on February 21, 2014.

As outrageous and funny as it is hard-hitting and violent, BLACK OUT is reminiscent of the early cinematic excursions of Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) and Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch) as it brims with outrageous scenarios and criminal machinations and all manner of insanely colorful characters. From a gay former Russian ballet dancer who runs his cocaine business from a bowling alley to a pair of lusciously badass tattoo-covered lady mob collectors to a couple of thugs who run a dog grooming shop, it’s all here and it’s all audacious in BLACK OUT. And it’s up to our hung-over “hero” Jos (Raymond Thiry) to creep back into this dangerous world to set things right—all before a violent escalation makes its way to his future wife and puts his upcoming wedding in some serious jeopardy!

Lauded by critics and audiences in its native Netherlands, BLACK OUT was nominated for two 2013 Rembrandt Awards (the Dutch Oscars) for Best Film and Best Actor (Raymond Thiry). It also garnered a pair of nominations at the 2013 Netherlands Film Festival for Best Supporting Actor (Bas Keijzer) and Best Cinematography (Jeroen de Bruin), along with a stateside nomination for Best Film at the 2012 Austin Fantastic Fest.
